Northern Coffee Works

Our design for Northern Coffee Works creates a 2,100-square-foot coffee shop on Washington Avenue that embodies the owners' commitment to sustainability, community building, and Minnesota's natural beauty. The narrow, modern retail space accommodates sustainably sourced coffee, breakfast, and lunch within an intimate urban environment designed to foster genuine human connection. The architecture supports the café's operational model—efficient counter service paired with flexible seating that encourages both quick visits and lingering conversation. Material choices, lighting design, and spatial proportions reflect Minnesota's landscapes while maintaining contemporary simplicity. Northern Coffee Works demonstrates our understanding that distinctive places emerge from authentic engagement with local values and user needs, creating cafés where the architecture itself becomes part of the experience.
