Project Details
Wakefield Park is a 3,400-square-foot community building set within a larger park renovation for the City of Maplewood. Designed for the Parks & Recreation Department, the facility supports a wide range of uses, including neighborhood meetings, small events, and family gatherings that extend out into the surrounding landscape. The building sits along the edge of Wakefield Lake, and its long, sheltering roof and covered patio orient activity toward views of the water and adjacent playfields.
A simple, flexible interior plan allows the main community room to adapt to different group sizes and arrangements, supported by a modest servery and service spaces that stay largely out of view. Exterior lap siding, brick accents, and a tongue-and-groove wood ceiling carry a straightforward material palette that is durable, easy to maintain, and warm in character. The generous outdoor patio extends the usable area in warmer months, providing shaded seating and a direct connection between indoor events and the park trail system. The building functions as a practical, year-round gathering place that reinforces the park’s role as a shared resource for the Maplewood community.
